About our Frozen Food
Iceland was built on a foundation of frozen food. You’ll always hear us talking about the #PowerofFrozen – and for good reason! Did you know that freezing food allows us to preserve quality and taste? The best part – it is completely natural! We’ve found evidence that people have been freezing their food to preserve it since as early as 1000BC in China – although we doubt that their frozen food was stored in a chest freezer!
Do you seem to frequently find yourself with leftover and wasted food? You’re not the only one – studies from the Food Standards Agency have shown that misconceptions over frozen food are resulting in a heavy contribution to the seven million tonnes of food and drink waste thrown away by UK households every year. Frozen food combats this by making it easier to control portion sizes and it also gives you the option to freeze any unused food for your next meal. You might not believe us, but it could actually save you up to £250* a year!
So we now know that frozen food can reduce costs and lower national food waste – what else can it do for us? Think about your favourite seasonal foods – raspberries, tomatoes, even asparagus! You might be able to purchase them throughout the year, but they’re at their best when they’re in season. As we’ve mentioned, frozen food preserves all of the tastes and textures that we experience with fresh. This means that by freezing your favourite seasonal foods, you can enjoy them at their best any time of the year!
