Further details

Go Explore Devon born explorer Percy Harrison Fawcett is believed to be the inspiration behind the movie character, India Jones. In the early 1900s, Fawcett worked for the Bolivian government to map gold and diamonds. Whilst on the expedition, he claimed to have seen and shot a 62 foot long giant anaconda, seen a giant poisonous spider and spotted dogs with two noses. Later in life, Fawcett explored the Amazon rainforest for years and believed that the jungle concealed a large, secret civilization. He launched an expedition to find the lost city 'Z'. But in 1925 Fawcett vanished without a trace. Pasty Crimping Pasties are Cornish, right? Possibly wrong! Historian Dr Todd Gray is laying claim that the first pasty recipe was created in Plymouth, Devon in the 16th century. That's 236 years before any mention of pasties are found in Cornwall. In Devon the crust runs along the top, but on a Cornish pasty it's around the curved edge. The crust is said to have been created so that miners could hold the pasty when that took a break for lunch underground and avoid getting the main part dirty. How Do you Crimp Yours? The Devon way
